SANCTIONS DEMO TURNS UGLY

Fifteen people were arrested on charges of obstructing the public highway and one had his wrist broken at last week's demonstration in London against sanctions on Iraq, which also marked the 10-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Gulf War. Richard Byrne of Voices in the Wilderness, who returned from a sanctions-busting trip to Iraq the night before, said policing of the event was heavy-handed: "l was less scared when the air-raid sirens went off in Basra."
